So Many New Features on PixPix.net

I have been so busy adding new features to PixPix.net that I have not got a chance to update the blog. Now that some of the core features are in place PixPix.net is ready to ROCK!

What's new and why is it cool?

PixPix.net Communities
Focus, focus, and focus...this is what Community is all about. We want to build a community around each topic such as music, image, game, video, and whatever. We want to build a place where people with similar interest can come together and build a great library of resources for everyone. Lets take the music community as an example. Anyone should be able to join the music community, post links, discover new and interesting music, discuss about it, place music ad on the classifieds section, and buy/sell CDs, instruments, or whatever. With this in mind, we will continue to push forward in providing the tools that it needs to become successfull.

PixPix.net Forum
In the support of building great communities, we added the forum. The is where people can come together and discuss about different subject matter.

PixPix.net Postcast
In an effort to expand our community into podcast, we added the podcast link in everyone's home page. With a click of a button, it will launch yous iTunes and let you download all you podcast audios.

PixPix.net to launch on August 1, 2006

I started developing PixPix.net as an image social network in February 1, 2006. A very draft version of the site was up by February 15, 2006.

PixPix.net was mostly inspired by del.icio.us. I liked that fact that I could bookmark all my favorite sites and was supprised by how many bookmarks I have. Del.cio.us is great for its purpose and I still use it everyday. The reason I started PixPix.net was because I wanted to preview the images that I bookmarked. I wanted to create a community where everyone helps build great libraries of images and have these galaries display on their MySpace, Friendster, and Blogs.

After having the site up, I consulted with my friend who used to work at ZDNet. He told me to do it for other document types also. The site should be expanded to audios, videos, documents, and software. He brough up several good points. People do not want to maintain an account at del.ico.us, PixPix.net, and Webjay at the same time. After some thoughts, I decided to take his advice and started adding other document types. This why PixPix.net is where it is now. He also adviced me to have it where people can sync the files with their computer. This mean they can download them onto their desktop. I liked the idea and this feature should be coming soon.

With all these happening, I have not had the time to launch the site. I am pretty happy with where PixPix.net is right now. I guess I will launch it in August 1, 2006. I still need fine tune some features.

Please let me know what you think. Post a comment or send an email to nicolas@pixpix.net.
